Irene Z Fon – Cameroon
Irene Z. Fon brings over two decades of expertise as an independent journalist, documentary photographer and filmmaker from Cameroon. Her versatile career encompasses radio, print, web and video journalism, reflecting an enduring dedication to empowering storytelling that uplifts communities and individuals alike.
In 2018, she established MPC, a dynamic media production enterprise crafting news and informational content for media organisations and businesses alike. The venture’s core mission centres on fostering community empowerment through compelling storytelling and strategic information dissemination.
Her journalistic excellence earned public recognition through an Award of Media Excellence, presented by The Returnees Project Inc. She also holds the distinction of completing the prestigious International Documentary Film Fellowship, a three-year programme spanning three countries and continents. During this period, she produced three compelling short documentaries under The Media Project’s Africa Film Project.
Irene’s photographic focus captures everyday moments, documenting the vibrant tapestry of community life through her lens. Her work has featured on numerous platforms, including Global Press, with commissioned pieces for Reuters. Additionally, her photographs have appeared across various media outlets covering her travel programme and diverse storytelling initiatives.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English Literature from the University of Buea, Cameroon, complementing her academic pursuits with extensive coursework in Mass Communication, Drama and Theatre Arts.
