Eltina Gaspar – Angola
Eltina Gaspar, a filmmaker and visual artist from Luanda, Angola, crafts powerful works exploring human rights, social justice and protest themes. Through her masterful use of photography and video, she documents and analyses Angola’s social, political and economic landscape, wielding visual storytelling as an instrument for advocacy and contemplation.
As a producer and art director, Eltina has collaborated on music videos with prominent Angolan artists including Snick Shine, Young Double and CMC. Alongside these partnerships, she continues developing impactful video art interventions addressing pressing community concerns.
In 2021, Eltina achieved her first major recognition, winning the Olhares Cruzados โ Angola e Portugal competition, organised by Instituto CamรตesโAngola, for her photograph “Igualdade”. That same year, her directorial debut short film “E Nรณs?” earned Best Director honours in Mosaiko โ Instituto da Cidadania’s Gender and Human Rights competition. Her work was also showcased in the feminist collective exhibition “Em Dependรชncia”, curated by Ondjango.
Throughout 2022, Eltina’s artworks featured in multiple exhibitions, including “Entretons Hurbanos”, “Depois do Trabalho”, and “Cafรฉ”. She completed two artistic residencies with Nesr Art Foundation and Pรฉs Descalรงos, both culminating in public exhibitions.
Her 2023 project “Relรญquias da Cidade de Luanda” was selected for the Goethe-Institut Angola festival. In 2024, she served on the jury for Eskebra’s photography competition, participated in “Luanda Sobre Vela” group exhibition, and garnered multiple accolades: Best Director at Shortcutz Angola for “Luxo no Lixo”; DocLuanda Award in “Luanda Precisa de Ti” category for “Olha e Me Ouvirรกs”; and the WHO Angola mental health photography competition award.
Eltina also completed an international residency in Portobelo, Panama, presenting her final piece “Metonรญmia Triangular”.
In 2025, she mentored the Urban Imaginaries and Audiovisual Creations workshop and currently stands as a finalist in the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy.
Through her growing collection of award-winning works, Eltina Gaspar continues emerging as a bold, essential voice in African visual storytelling, consistently pushing boundaries and fostering fresh narratives from Angola to the global stage.
